The Objective2 Headphone Amp is designed to output a very clean signal. Not color the sound. Many amps might emphasize one frequency over the other, or might be too weak, or might produce hiss. The o2 amp is designed to produce a sound quality that avoids those downfalls! It's measured specs have been compared favorably to headphone amps costing multiple times the price of the Objective2!
Size: The o2 amp is a size many would consider transportable, (just a little larger than a pack of cigarettes). Size is approximately 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" x 1 1/4", (if you include the volume knob, add about 3/4", i.e. depth 4"). Weight is about 8 oz, (11 oz with two NIMH 9v batteries installed). Even though the unit is light in weight, the case is all metal, and quite sturdy.
Connections: The Objective2 has everything up front, (except the AC connection which is on the back - AC adapter included). From left to right - Push power button, 3.5mm headphone output, Red power LED, Volume knob, Push button gain switch, and at the far right is a 3.5mm input.
Gain: The o2 amp has a gain button. Headphones that are easy to power are usually best served by keeping the gain button turned off. This would provide the cleanest sound. But some headphones that need more power to drive them will benefit by depressing the gain button. There are also some instances where your source or recording might be at a low level.
Batteries: The o2 can be powered by two 9v NiMH rechargeable batteries (pre-installed with this version). The specs indicate the batteries can last approximately 6-8 hours. However, this is just a rough guideline. Your actual times will vary depending on batteries, headphones, IEM's, turning on/off, how long since charged, etc. It takes approximately 12 (or more) hours to fully charge.
